The Advisory Board possesses a remarkable breadth of experience and expertise. Joining Peter D. Vash, M.D., Lindora's Executive Medical Director on the prestigious panel are:

GEORGE L. BLACKBURN, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Blackburn serves as the S. Daniel Abraham Associate Professor of Nutrition, Associate Director of the Division of Nutrition, at Harvard Medical School. He is the Chief of the Nutrition/Metabolism Laboratory, and Director of the Center for the Study of Nutrition Medicine, which are affiliated with the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts.

He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas in 1965 and completed his internship and residency at Boston City Hospital, Harvard Medical School. In 1973, he obtained his doctorate in nutritional biochemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Dr. Blackburn's research investigates the most complex issues dealing with nutrition and health, and has published widely on various aspects of nutrition, medicine, and metabolism.

He has been given numerous awards for his distinguished career in nutrition, and is on the board of Advisors for the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) of which he served as president; he was also President of the American Society for Clinical Nutrition and a member of numerous other medical societies. He is a member of the board of the American Obesity Association and is a fellow of the American College of Surgery.

John P. Foreyt, Ph.D.,
The Director of the Behavioral Medicine Research Center at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, Dr. Foreyt is co-author of the best selling book The Living Heart Diet and has written thirteen other books.  He has also written more that 200 scientific articles which have been published in such journals as The Journal of the American Medical Association, The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, and the Journal of American Dietetic Association.  Dr. Foreyt is a member of the National Institutes of Health's National Task Force on the Prevention and Treatment of Obesity and the American Obesity Association's Advisory Council.
Ellen McGrath, Ph.D.
Dr. McGrath is an internationally known expert on coaching women and men in achieving success in their personal and professional lives.  A clinical psychologist with more than 25 years experience, she is the author of the nationally acclaimed book, When Feeling Bad is Good. She has chaired the American Psychological Association National Task Force on Women and Depression  and is the senior author of the Task Force book, Risk Factors and Treatment Issues.  She is the Executive Director of the Psychology Centers in New York City and Laguna Beach, and the Director of Psychological Services for the New York Menopause Center.  Dr. McGrath is on the Medical Faculty of the University of California Irvine Medical School and the University of Rochester School of Medicine. She is Past President of the Division of Psychotherapy and the Division of Media Psychology of the American Psychological Association.  She recently authored The Complete Idiot's Guide to Beating the Blues.
Marshall B. Stamper, M.D.
Dr. Stamper is a pioneer in the study of obesity and is the founder of Lindora, California's largest weight management organization. A graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, he established a general medical practice in California, where he became interested in the study of obesity and became one of the first physicians to specialize in bariatrics, the treatment of obesity.
Alan A. Steigrod, age 67, has been an advisor to the Board of Directors since 1996. Since 1996 Mr. Steigrod has served as Managing Director of Newport HealthCare Ventures, a venture capital and consulting firm. From March 1993 until November 1995, Mr. Steigrod served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Cortex Pharmaceuticals Inc. From February 1991 until February 1993, Mr. Steigrod was a management consultant. From March 1981 until February 1991, Mr. Steigrod served as Executive Vice President of Marketing/Sales of Glaxo Inc., a pharmaceutical corporation. Mr. Steigrod also serves as a director of NeoRx Corporation, Lorus Therapeutics Inc., and Sepracor, Inc.
Peter Vash, M.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Vash is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Center for Health Sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He is a Board Certified Internist specializing in Endocrinology and Metabolism, with an emphasis in obesity and eating disorders. Dr. Vash received his medical degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and completed his postgraduate training at UCLA, where he was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar and received his Master of Public Health degree. He is past President of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians and has served on the Board of the North American Society for the Study of Obesity. Dr. Vash lectures extensively and serves as an expert consultant to the Medical Board of California, Division of Medical Quality. He has published widely in his field, and is a consultant to the Food and Drug Administration, several pharmaceutical companies, and the National Broadcasting Company (NBC).
Harry K. Wexler, Ph.D., is a nationally recognized expert on research, technology transfer and policy in the area of mental health and substance abuse treatment in prisons and the community. He has been one of the leaders in prison reform that has led to the acceptance of prison drug treatment in many prisons across the nation. His research that has demonstrated the effectiveness of prison for treatment with aftercare has had great impact on the field and is widely cited as support for expanding prison drug treatment by state and federal policy makers. Dr. Wexler has served as a research consultant for Lindora since 1993 and has studied the effectiveness of the program and the role of motivation. Dr. Wexler serves on the editorial boards of substance abuse and psychological journals and has published numerous articles in scholarly and policy journals. He also serves or has held appointments at major universities, is active in many professional organizations, and makes numerous presentations at national conferences.
